September 8-9, 2018. The Adventure really began at least 3 years ago, when I started trying to join Peace Corps. However, today I begin the physical journey with packing. We are allowed 2 bags of 50 pounds each, plus standard carry-ons. Based on recommendations, I am mainly focused on cold weather gear and pharmaceuticals. At 5:30 am on the 9th, my friend, Pat Chapman, took me to the airport. All day I dodged bullets. First the power went out as we were leaving, rain in Philly delayed all flights, but I got one, luggage lost but recovered.
The first stop is Philadelphia. Tonight I met my local friends, Mark and Brenda Binnig, who treated me to authentic Philly Cheesesteaks at the both the rival originals, Pat’s and Gino’s. I met my first fellow volunteer, my roommate. More tomorrow as we check in for orientation.
Thank you for sharing your journey here!
Linda, it was our pleasure to introduce you to the “Cheesesteak Challenge”! Safe travels and best of luck in Morocco, and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
